About PSAT Test

The acronym PSAT stands for Preliminary SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). PSAT is also known as NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). It is a paper based standardized test conducted by the College Board and co-sponsored by National Merit Scholarship Corporation in the United States. PSAT is the practice for SAT Test. The PSAT Test is conducted nationwide and every year more than 3.4 million high school students take this test. Twice a year, PSAT is administered; mostly in the month of October and the result would be out by early or mid-December. PSAT scores are used to identify National Wide Scholars and the merit ones are awarded with scholarships.

Eligibility for PSAT Test

The eligibility for PSAT Test is studying grade 11 in United States.

PSAT Test Fees

The fees for PSAT Test are $16 for each student. If you can’t afford to pay the fees then you may be eligible for a PSAT fee waiver. Fee waivers are applicable to low -income 11th Graders only.

PSAT Registration

Candidates must sign up for the test at your high school. Online registration for the PSAT is not available. If you want to take the PSAT, contact your high school counselor and get details about test fees, test date, time, and location at which your school will give the test.

Test Dates

The PSAT is generally administered in mid-October, though there are a few possible dates. The 2017 PSAT test dates are below:

  • Primary: Wednesday, 11th October
  • Alternate: Wednesday, 25th October
  • Saturday: October 14th

PSAT Score:

Scoring for PSAT seems very similar to SAT Scores. SAT scores range on a score scale of 400–1600. You will get your PSAT scores on December, 6 to 8 weeks after taking the exam. According to the College Board, PSAT 2017 Scores will be available online starting 11th December 2017.
