The General Certificate of Education Advanced Level commonly called as the “GCE A Level”, is a secondary school leaving qualification in the United Kingdom offered by secondary schools, sixth form colleges and further education in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. A level is the standard assessment of applicants for United Kingdom University admission and is highly respected worldwide.
General Certificate of Education Advanced Levels are typically taken by students looking to continue on to higher studies. Before commencing “GCE A Level” study, candidates take Year 11 exams (age 15-16) called as the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) in a range of subjects (8–10 most commonly). Approximately all students are required to take English, mathematics and science, with most other fields of study being elective.
To complete “GCE A level”, students sit an examination at the end of each academic year. Generally, candidates take and complete 4 or 4 A level subjects but there is no upper limit to the number of subjects that can be taken.
