  1. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

SAT is known as Scholastic Aptitude Test. SAT is the standardized exam for students who want admissions in the U.S. Colleges. Scholastic Aptitude Test is conducted and developed by College Board Organization and it is administered by ETS (Educational Testing Services). SAT is offered seven times per year as a part of the schedule of the College Board. The total duration of the exam is 3 hours and 45 minutes. The SAT exam is divided into SAT Reasoning Test and SAT Subject based Test.

The SAT I Examination is entirely a paper-based Test. The SAT 1 has following sections – Mathematics, Reading test and Writing and Language test.

The SAT II Examination is entirely a paper-based test. The SAT 2 Subject tests are one-hour tests offered in the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths Level 1, Maths Level 2, English Literature, US History, World History, and Languages.

  • SAT I will be administered 4 times a year, instead of the usual 6 times. The administrations will be in October, December, March, and May. (November and June removed).
  • SAT II will be administered 5 times a year, in October, November, December, May, and June.

2. Law School Admission Test (LSAT)

The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is conducted by Law School Admission Council (LSAC) for easing the admission procedure to various Law Colleges in the United States, Canada, and other countries. The LSAT is conducted four times in a year. Once in February, June, September/October and December Months. There is no common LSAT Eligibility Criteria accepted by law institutions. It may vary from one participating institution to another.

This exam is only offered paper/pencil. The test consists of four 35-minute sections of multiple-choice questions. These sections include one Reading Comprehension section, one Analytical Reasoning section, and two Logical Reasoning sections.

The scoring of a LSAT is calculated based only on the number of questions answered correctly, called the raw score.

3. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

The Full form of TOEFL is Test of English as Foreign Language. TOEFL is conducted to assess the English proficiency of students who want to study abroad. It is recognized by more than 8,000 colleges/universities in more than 130 countries. TOEFL is registered and administered by ETS (Educational Testing Service).
The TOEFL iBT test is given in English and administered via the internet. There are 4 sections which include listening, reading, speaking and writing and which take a total of about four and half hours to complete and each section is taken online.

4. International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) was introduced in 1980 by Cambridge English Language Assessment and the British Council. IELTS Exam has an innovative format. Test mainly measures the ability of exam-takers to communicate in the four basic language skills like listening, reading, speaking, and writing. IELTS is globally accepted as evidence of English language proficiency by over 9,000 organizations. Most popular countries where IELTS is accepted for university admissions are UK, Australia, New Zealand, US, Canada.

The student can choose between the Academic or General Training versions of the test. The test has four sections: Listening (30 minutes), Speaking – interview (15 minutes), Reading – different for Academic or General Training (60 minutes), Writing – different for Academic or General Training (60 minutes).

5. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) 

The GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) revised General Test is taken by individuals applying to various graduate and business school programs in the United States (U.S) and other countries. GRE Exam Administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), it is available at about 700 centers in over 160 countries. The standardized test has been developed to evaluate the verbal, analytical and mathematical skills of the candidates. Individuals applying to graduate schools in order to pursue a Master’s of Science (MS) or MBA in U.S are required to take the exam.

GRE General Test pattern is as follow 3 sections, namely, Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning.

6. Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a computer-adaptive test conducted by GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council). GMAT exam is an international level MBA entrance exam which assesses a person’s analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal and reading skills in standard written English. The GMAT syllabus and pattern remains the same throughout the year. There are no specific dates for GMAT 2017. Candidates can choose a date according to their convenience. GMAT exam is available in 114 countries with more than 600 test centers around the world. GMAT was originally a paper-and-pencil test, it is now a computer-adaptive test (CAT).

GMAT Exam consists of 4 sections. They are: Quantitative, Reasoning and Verbal and Analytical Writing Assessment. The total duration of the Graduate Management Admission Test is 3 and half hours. Total score range is 200–800.

7. Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)

MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) is for the students who are planning to pursue their Medical education in either USA or Canada. MCAT is conducted by Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Approximately 80,000 people worldwide take the MCAT each year. The Medical College Admission Test is a standardized designed to test problem-solving skills, critical thinking abilities, and writing skills, as well as knowledge of basic science concepts. The test consists of 3 hours and 20 minutes of multiple-choice testing, plus one hour devoted to a writing sample. MCAT scores are valid for 3 years.
