About CPA Exam Details:

The full form of CPA is Certified Public Accountants. C.P.A Examination is developed by the AICPA with significant input and assistance by NASBA and state boards of accountancy. CPA is similar to the CA (Chartered Accountancy Course) Qualification in India. It is intended to assess the knowledge and skills entry-level CPAs need to practice public accountancy. And it protects the public interest by helping to ensure that only qualified individuals become licensed as U.S. Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). Individuals pursuing to qualify as CPAs, the only licensed qualification in accounting are required to pass the Exam. Exam Requirements/Eligibility             

Candidates must meet the following requirements to sit for the CPA Exam.

  • CPA requirements usually consist of 4 year Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in accounting (not inevitably an accounting degree) plus an extra year of study, which can be either at an undergraduate/graduate level.
  • Many states allow candidates with a bachelor’s degree with specific credits in accounting and business courses to sit for the CPA Exam. Certification usually requires 150 credit hours.

CPA Exam Pattern

The CPA Exam is a 14hour, computer-based exam comprised of 4 sections:

  • Auditing and Attestation (AUD) – 4hrs
  • Business Environment and Concepts (BEC) – 4hrs
  • Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR) – 4hrs
  • Regulation (REG) – 4hrs

There are four “testing windows” each year. The 2019 CPA Testing Schedule is as follows:

  • January 1 – February 28 (March dark)
  • April 1 – May 31 (June dark)
  • July 1 – August 31 (September dark)
  • October 1 – November 30 (December dark)

Note: CPA Tests are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. The earlier candidates schedule selections, the better their chances are of obtaining the location, date & time of their choice.

Financial Accounting and Reporting covers: The various aspects of the financial reporting practiced in the modern day business enterprises, or government entities. And the key differences between GAAP basis and IFRS basis.

Business Environment and concepts covers: Business environment in general, and its core concepts. Financial management information technology, and business strategies in addition to accounting concepts. Economic concepts, financial management, information systems and communications, strategic planning and operations management. Testing to determine different business strategies with their knowledge in strategic planning and market risks.Making financial decisions, forecasting trends in the market, and understanding internet’s implication in business.

Regulation covers: Tax concepts related to personal, partnership and corporate. Capability to understand legal responsibilities. Tax implication and its various uses in business entities. Various tax issues and its consequences.

Pass Rate

A score of 75 on each section is required to pass the exam.

Fee Structure:

  • Initial Application – $30 (this is a one-time fee and will cover the cost of processing the application)
  • Per Exam Section – $30
  • A candidate must also pay fees to the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants), NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy) and Prometric.
